Dandruff is not contagious,not serious,not causes health problem but when it is intractable,it can cause thinning of hair. It causes scalp itchy and inflamed. Dandruff is superficial layer of dead scalp cell.
Mechanical pulling of hair due to continuous itching can lead to hair fall. Dandruff is also known as scurf or Pityriasis simplex capillitii, cause is unknown.

Possible causes are as follows:
- Not enough hair brushing
- Yeast
- Dry skin
- Not enough shampooing
- Reaction to hair or skin care products
- Certain skin conditions
- Spsoriasis, eczema

Treatments : Shampoos and scalp preparations.
Most anti-dandruff or anti-fungal shampoos contain at least one of the following active ingredients:
- Zinc pyrithione
- Selenium sulphide
- Coal tar
- Ketoconazole
- Salicylic acids
- Tea-tree OIL
- Green Tea potential
 Shampoo should stay on scalp at least 5 mins before rinsing.
